Overnite Oximetry

Porch Home Medical is pleased to offer a system for overnite pulse oximetry testing. This is indicated for CHF patients who may be experiencing Cheyne-Stokes respirations nocturnally, hypoxemia and possible obstructure sleep apnea. It is also useful in targeting COPD patients who have nocturnal desaturations during sleep. We have tested numerous patients who had normal oxygen saturations while awake but tested below 90% during sleep. Usual treatment for these patients is supplemental oxygen overnite.

Porch Home Medical technicians will attach the oximetry unit to the patient at our office and instruct them in the proper use. The patient will sleep with the unit and return it to Porch Home Medical the following morning. We will download the information data directly to the computer facility in Buffalo, New York. A report will be returned via fax within minutes and forwarded to the physician.

There have been numerous journal articles suggesting that more than half of the CHF population are having difficulties during the night. These patients should be evaluated for supplemental oxygen or sleep therapy needs. The Oxiscan system was developed with just that thought in mind.

The Oxiscan system is the easiest system to use for the physician in order to evaluate a patient's need for overnite oxygen supplementation. It also offers the Delta Index for a predictor of possible sleep apnea. An index greater than 0.6 indicates a possible OSA.

We think this system will enhance treatment of CHF, COPD, and possible OSA patients.
